SACU AWARDS -26 November 2009
The Scottish ACU held their annual awards ceremony at Motherwell Civic Centre, and Speedway was once again represented with awards being made as follows:
SACU Scottish Speedway Rider of the Year - James Grieves
SACU Scottish Speedway Young Rider of the Year - Greg Blair
SACU Scottish Speedway Under 16 Rider of the Year - Dale Lamb
SACU Scottish Junior Champion - Gary Beaton

James Grieves reinforced his status as Scotland's number 1 with a great season at Glasgow, so there was never really any doubt as to who was the top rider in Scotland in 2009 and he is already confirmed to race again for Glasgow in the Premier League in 2010.

Greg Blair's return to Premier League racing with Berwick and his performance for Scotland in the victory over England in the youth international helped Greg pick up an award which will hopefully encourage him to make huge strides forward in what we hope will be a totally injury free 2010.

Unlucky Dale Lamb finished the season with a broken pelvis, but was determined to collect his award without the crutches, which he managed just fine. He still seems such a young lad, but this was the last time he can win the award after he turned 16 at the end of the season. A big year ahead for him as he looks to step up a level.

Gary Beaton has been a regular winner at the SACU Awards and thoroughly deserved his trophy this year after a measured performance in the Heathersfield Gold Helmet saw him comfortably take the title for the 2nd time.

A special Award was also made to Edinburgh Scotwaste Monarchs in recognition of their achievements over the past 2 seasons.

MOSE - Lifetime Achievement Award.
Everyone in Speedway in Scotland knows Iain 'Mose' Hutchison. One of the sports great characters, and machine examiner at both Edinburgh and Berwick, Mose was honoured by the SACU with a Lifetime Achievement Award. As well as giving a lot of his time to our sport, he has a great involvement with road racing as well and there can be few people involved in motorcycle sport who could deserve this accolade more. Well done Mose.

sample picTRAINING:
Due to the lack of progress with regards sourcing a new training facility, and with Glasgow no longer available to us to rent out, we are unable to run any training schools in Scotland. Should this situation change, we will issue a press release to all appropriate publications and web sites. Glasgow Speedway have announced that the track will be open for practice on a Thursday night, but this will be for the use of the Glasgow team only.
